ONEONTA, NY – Hartwick held a 5-4 lead but a 9-1 run by visiting Houghton (5-11, 2-6 E8) over a 19:48 span in the first half and into the second would be too much to overcome for the Hawks in a 14-10 defeat. The Hartwick's season comes to a close with a final record of 5-10 and 2-6 mark in the Empire 8.
Lauren Rosenberg (Smithtown, NY/Commack) scored five goals to lead the Hartwick offense. She finishes the season with 51 tallies.
Ashley Werner (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties) added a pair of goals and two assists with
Abby Letourneau (South Portland, ME/South Portland) contributing two scores.
Hartwick would lead by a count of 3-1 after nearly 10 minutes of action as Rosenberg, Werner, and
Emma Knapp (Canandaigua, NY/Marcus Whitman) all found the net. The Highlanders would score three consecutive goals in a 2:22 span to grab a 4-3 advantage.
The Hawks retook the lead on a pair of Rosenberg goals, but Houghton would score four of the final five goals of the half to take an 8-6 edge heading into halftime.
The Highlanders controlled the draw early in the second half and they added to their total with five straight goals in the opening 12:23 to up their lead to 13-6.
The Hawks would rally for four straight goals to get within three. Letourneau started the run with her second goal of the game at 13:21. Werner scored at the 6:27 mark, and Rosenberg tallied at 3:36 and 1:55 to make the score 13-10. It would be as close as the Hawks would get, however, as the Highlanders got the final goal with under a minute to go.
Hartwick had the edge in shots in the game, 32-31. The Hawks also had 24 ground balls to Houghton's 19. The Highlanders finished with 18 of the game's 26 draws.
Courtney Coons (Wilton, NY/South Glens Falls) ended the game with a pair of assists for the Hawks. She closes the season with 31 helpers, which is the second-highest single-season total in program history.
Emma Kaplan (Danbury, CT/Danbury) grabbed a game-high five ground balls for 'Wick. Rosenberg and Werner each chipped in three ground balls apiece. Letourneau had a team-high three draws. She also tied Kaplan, Rosenberg, and
Jessie Matt (Cazenovia, NY/Cazenovia) for a game-high two caused turnovers.
Carleigh Tarala (Tully, NY/Tully) stopped 11 Houghton shots in cage. Highlander goalie Kourtnie Franklin made 13 saves.
Houghton was led by Torri Sperl's seven goals. Chandler Jones dished out eight assists.
