ONEONTA, NY – Hartwick field hockey equaled a program record for consecutive wins to start a season on Saturday as the Hawks defeated visiting Brockport by a final score of 1-0.

'Wick is now 6-0, matching the 2004 team which also ended up winning the Empire 8 Championship and advancing to the NCAA Tournament.

Freshman
Allyson Quirk (Longmeadow, MA/Longmeadow) scored the game's only goal in the 19
th minute.
Lex Richards (Northport, NY/Northport) earned the assist.

The Hawks dominated the opening 20 minutes as they registered four shots and earned six penalty corners before Quirk got what would prove to be the game-winner. A corner from
Mikaelan Stuligross (Walton, NY/Walton) found its way to the top of the circle to Richards. She found Quirk in front who beat Brockport keeper Sarah Beam to her right for the 1-0 lead.

The Golden Eagles turned up the pressure after falling behind, registering six shots and securing seven penalty corners the rest of the half. With 6:45 remaining before halftime, the visitors earned a penalty stroke but Carter would win the battle as Katherine Weyant would put it wide of the target.

The second half was even with both teams getting chances at goal. The Hawks would hold a slim edge in shots 4-4 with both teams earning four corners.

Brockport's final chance to tie it came with less than 10 minutes on a corner. The Golden Eagles produced a shot but it was blocked and the Hawks killed off the remaining 10 minutes to secure the victory.

The Golden Eagles had the total edge in shots, 11-9. The Hawks had the advantage in penalty corners, 12-11.

Shannon Carter (Falls Church, VA/J.E.B. Stuart) made four saves in goal for 'Wick. Beam stopped six Hartwick shots.

The game for the Hawks marked their Goals For Gus game. All proceeds today, and throughout the season, go directly to fund research for the treatment of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.Â
