Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Hartwick Tops Siena by 2-1 Margin

LOUDONVILLE, NYJohnny McBeth (Glasgow, Scotland/Upper Iowa University) scored off a feed from Marc Berry (Galashiels, Scotland/Galashiels Academy) with less than 13 minutes to play to break a 1-1 deadlock and help the Hartwick men's soccer team to a 2-1 win at Siena College in Loudonville on Wednesday afternoon.

The win ups the Hawks' season record to 3-1-2. 'Wick is also unbeaten in its last four matches (2-0-2).

The game, which served as the first-ever meeting between the two programs, didn't start out well for the Hawks as they handed the Saints a 1-0 lead 4:33 into the contest. Keeper Lenny Wilson's (Aberdeen, Scotland/Cults Academy) goal kick was intercepted by Siena's Junior Rosero, who walked in alone on goal. He deposited his shot into the 'Wick net for his second tally of the season and the hosts were in front.

The Hartwick deficit was short-lived as just 2:20 later, the Hawks tied the match. A cross from Jack Donaldson (Paisley, Scotland/Mars Hill University) found the head of Mike Rood (Conklin, NY/Susquehanna Valley) who pushed the ball to Harry Morton (Napier, New Zealand/Te Aho O Te Kura Pounamu). Morton took the ball out of the air and volleyed home past Saint goalkeeper Aleks Radosavljevic for his first goal of the season.

Over 70 minutes passed until the next tally, which proved to be the game-winner. Donaldson gave a short pass to Berry on the left side of the Saints' goal. Berry did well to beat his man and served up a perfect ball to the six-yard line to McBeth, who's near-post header found the net for the clincher.

The Hawks kept the Saints out for the remaining12:40. Rosero had the Saints' last chance with a minute and a half remaining  but his shot from just inside the corner of the Hartwick 18-yard box was blocked by a 'Wick defender.

Hartwick had advantages in shots in each half, including a 10-7 margin in the opening 45 minutes. The Hawks finished with 14 shots to Siena's 10. They also earned six of the game's seven corners.

Wilson made three saves in the game to get the victory in goal. All three stops came in the opening session. Radosavljevic closed the match with four saves for the Saints.

'Wick plays at Fairfield University on Saturday in another non-conference match. Kickoff between the Hawks and Stags is 7 p.m.
