ONEONTA, NY - On Wednesday afternoon, the Hartwick women's field hockey team competed in its 51
st meeting against local rival the Oneonta Red Dragons. The Hawks have played no other team more times.
A goal by
Courtney Coons (Wilton, NY / South Glens Falls) through a scrum outside of Oneonta's goal not only resulted in the only goal of the game by either team but snapped a five-game losing streak of the storied rivalry. The 1-0 victory also also marks the first win by Hartwick on Oneonta's turf since 2005.
Coming off of the bench, Coons registered the only scoring play of the contest in the 54
th minute beating Oneonta's suffocating defensive presence right outside of the goal post.
The Hawks advance to a perfect 3-0 record for the season while Oneonta drops to 1-2 on the year. The seamless start is the first since the 2009 slate.
Senior goalie
