ONEONTA, NY – Hartwick's men's swimming and diving team came up short against Brandeis University on Friday in their opening dual meet of the season. The Hawks came away with a total of seven victories but fell by the final of 156-132.
Sophomore
Yury Chernyak (Sidney, NY/Sidney) won three races on the day. Junior
Aron Zhang (Douglaston, NY/Brooklyn Technical) came away with another two victories. The pair also combined for a relay win to start the meet off.
Zhang, Chernyak,
Sean Deignan (Milford, PA/Delaware Valley), and
Nathan Marshall (St. John's, Antigua and Barbuda/St. Anthony's) teamed up for the win in the 200 medley relay in the opening race. Their final time was 1:39.49.
Chernyak would earn victories in the 50 breast (27.12), 100 breast (1:00.35), and the 100 individual medley (55.79).
Ryan McLoughlin (New Windsor, NY/Our Lady of Lourdes) was second in the 50 breast as the Hawks finished 1-2 in the event.
Zhang earned firsts in the 50 and 100 backstroke events. He swam the 50 in 24.58 and the 100 in 53.74.
Marshall would claim the other victory for Hartwick in the 50 freestyle. His final time was 22.27.
Hartwick hosts a quad-meet with St. Rose, Utica, and Cazenovia tomorrow with diving starting at 9 a.m. followed by the swim competition at 1 p.m.
