Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field Hockey Stopped by St. John Fisher 3-0 to Close Out Season

PITTSFORD, NY – Needing a victory on Saturday to clinch an Empire 8 playoff berth, Hartwick field hockey came up short with a 3-0 loss to the St. John Fisher Cardinals. The Hawks close out their season with an overall record of 11-6, marking the second straight 10-win season for the program. The Hawks finish in a three-way tie for third place in the league standings with a 4-3 mark, but miss out on the playoffs on tie-breakers.

Hartwick would earn the day's first corner of the game just over four minutes into the game. Brooke Singer (Johnson City/Maine Endwell) would produce the first shot with Fisher goalkeeper Ashley Maynard earning the save.

The Cardinals would out-shoot the Hawks 11-0 over the next 18 minutes. Allyson Osborne (Nottingham, PA/Solanco) would stop nine of the shots she faced in the span. The hosts would register their first goal of the game at the 26:37 mark. Lauren Fazio would be credited with the tally with Danila Casseri picking up the assist.

The Cardinals would take another two shots in the final eight minutes of the half. The second forced a defensive save from Hartwick defender Maggie Stauble (Kingston, NY/Kingston).

Osborne made another two saves early in the second half, but a deflection would result in the Cardinals' second goal at the 44:13 mark. Reghan Amoroso got the goal with Bre Socker assisting and Fisher had a two-goal cushion with less than 26 minutes remaining in the game.

Claudia Stone (Akron, NY/Akron) would record the Hawks' second shot with roughly 10 minutes to play but it would go wide of the net. Less than a minute later, Fisher tacked on its third goal as Emily Markarian set up Jess Snyder at 62:13.

Osborne would end the game with 11 saves. She was relieved by senior Laura Downey (Delmar, NY/Bethlehem), who played four and a half minutes before Shannon MacMaster (Hamilton, ONT/Sherwood Second. School) played the final three minutes.

The game marked the final one in the careers of seniors Stone, Downey, Marissa Downes (Boiceville, NY/Onteora), and Lex Richards (Northport, NY/Northport).
