ONEONTA, NY – Hartwick improved to 4-1 in head-to-head competitions on Saturday at Moyer Pool with a 167-113 victory over visiting New Paltz. The Hawks were first in nine of 16 events on the day.
Junior
Aron Zhang (Douglaston, NY/Brooklyn Technical) and sophomore
Yury Chernyak (Sidney, NY/Sidney) each won two individual swimming events. Zhang was first in the 100 back with a time of 53.73. He also claimed top honors in the 100 butterfly in 52.39. Chernyak took the 100 and 200 breaststroke races. His time in the 100 was 59.98 with a 2:12.60 in the 200.
Ryan McLoughlin (New Windsor, NY/Our Lady of Lourdes) claimed second in both races.
Isaac Waide (East Haddam, CT/Nathan Hale-Ray) earned the first win of the day for the Hawks in the 1000 free (10:37.50).
Rowan Poppen-Eagan (Puyallup, WA/Puyallup) placed second and
Javonte Herbert (Houston, TX/Cy Springs) was third. Herbert also won the 500 free with a time of 5:09.15. Waide placed second in the event.
Oleg Gentry (Stamford, CT/Trinity-Pawling) was the lone competitor in the diving events. He scored 124.60 in the 1-meter and 146.40 in the 3-meter.
Nathan Marshall (St. John's, Antigua and Barbuda/St. Anthony's),
Max Ferrick (Westford, MA/Westford Academy),
Zach Skelton (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls Lima), and McLoughlin combined to win the 200 free relay to close out the day. Their time was 1:31.08.
Hartwick travels to Rochester for a meet with Nazareth on Saturday, November 4. The Hawks and Golden Flyers begin at 1 p.m.
