ONEONTA, NY – Hartwick took nine of 16 events on Saturday to defeat visiting SUNY Oneonta 156-138 in a battle of city rivals. The Hawks' improve to 5-2 in dual meets this season.
Aron Zhang (Douglaston, NY/Brooklyn Technical) won three individual races and he teamed up for a relay win to pace the Hawks. He combined with
Yury Chernyak (Sidney, NY/Sidney),
Oleg Gentry (Stamford, CT/Trinity-Pawling), and
Nathan Marshall (St. John's, Antigua and Barbuda/St. Anthony's) to start the day with a victory in the 200 medley relay (1:38.97).
In individual events, Zhang was first in the 100 backstroke (55.59), the 100 butterfly (52.93), and the 400 individual medley (4:21.49).
Chernyak won two events for 'Wick. He secured a victory in the 100 breaststroke in a time of 59.46. He then followed it up with first place in the 200 breast in 2:09.72.
Isaac Waide (East Haddam, CT/Nathan Hale-Ray) also earned a win in the 1000 freestyle (10:26.65).
Ryan McLoughlin (New Windsor, NY/Our Lady of Lourdes) was first in the 500 freestyle (5:01.37).
Marshall,
Javonte Herbert (Houston, TX/Cy Springs),
Max Ferrick (Westford, MA/Westford Academy), and McLoughlin capped the day with a victory to seal the team win in the 400 free relay. Their final time was 3:19.14.
Hatwick is back in action tomorrow against RPI. Diving begins at 10 a.m. with swimming to follow at 1 p.m.
