ONEONTA, NY – Hartwick got all of its scoring in the first half as it built a 14-1 lead in a 14-4 victory over Houghton on Saturday at Wright Stadium. The Hawks snap a three-game winless streak and improve to 7-5 overall and 4-2 in the league with the result.
Hartwick celebrated its seven seniors -
Jake Sachse (Lutherville, MD/Boys' Latin School of MD),
Conner Long (Hardwick, NJ/Blair Academy),
Geoff Baptiste (North Chelmsford, MA/Chelmsford),
James Vogt (Stratham, NH/Exeter),
Sam Nowak (Lockport, NY/Lockport),
Matt McCallan (Bay Shore, NY/West Islip), and
Matt Bytner (Albany, NY/Colonie) – in a ceremony prior to the game. They would combine for five goals, an assist, and 11 ground balls in the contest.
Hartwick led 3-0 after just 1:46 of action and made it 5-0 before the 10-minute mark of the first quarter. Houghton got on the scoreboard with 3:59 left but the Hawks answered with three more tallies 1:18 apart for an 8-1 edge after 15 minutes.
Six goals in the second quarter increased the margin to 13 at the break. With the game in hand, the Hawks took their foot off the pedal in the second half and the Highlanders got the final three goals of the match.
McCallan led the Hawks with three scores.

Mike Majchrzak (Plantsville, CT/Southington) added a goal and two assists with
Nick Couvaris (Seaford, NY/Seaford) contributing a goal and one helper.
Jared Hoff (Cohoes, NY/Shaker) had the remaining Hartwick tally.
Brett Maguire (Adams Center, NY/South Jefferson) chipped in with two assists. Sachse and
Sam Ferguson (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin) had one each.
Vogt and
Garrison Wojtas (Hauppauge, NY/Hauppauge) tied for a game-high with six grounds balls. Vogt won 13-of-16 face-offs and Wojtas caused a game-high four turnovers. Maguire,
David Lee (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs), and
Derek Chandler (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) each had three ground balls in the game.
C.J. Alesandrini (Schenectady, NY/Colonie) made the start in goal. He made two saves in the first half. Nowak added three stops in the final two quarters.
The Hawks host Utica on Wednesday, April 26 at 4 p.m. in their final home contest of the season.
