MORRISVILLE, NY –
Lauren Rosenberg's (Smithtown, NY/Commack) eight goals led a class of seven different Hawks' scorers in Hartwick's 15-8 victory over host Morrisville at Drake Field Wednesday afternoon. The non-conference win severs a brief two-game skid for the Hawks bringing their season to 9-5 while the Mustangs drop to 10-5 overall.
Rosenberg's hot scoring tied her season-high but was not the only game-high tally for the Hawks.
Hailey Pooler's (Adams Center, NY/South Jefferson) four assists led a trio of Hawks with
Ashley Werner (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties) and
Jennifer Darasz (Gorham, ME/Gorham) each lending three helpers.
Kayla Tracey (Bardonia, NY/Clarkstown South) scored a pair of goals while
Abby Letourneau (South Portland, ME/South Portland),
Emma Knapp (Canandaigua, NY/Marcus Whitman), Pooler, Werner and Darasz rounded out the Hawks' scoring.
Celia Abbott paced the Mustangs with three goals, three ground balls and one caused turnover. Elizabeth Leva was also a standout for the Mustangs netting two tallies, an assist, one ground ball and caused turnover, and five draws.
Tracey's first score of the game came less than a minute into play. The Mustangs added two in the 24
th minute, one on a man-up situation, to take their only lead of the game, 2-1. Darasz had a hand in the game's next two goals in which she scored on the Hawks' go-ahead tally at 18:56.
Rosenberg's hat trick came inside the rest of the half after Abbot's goal and only broken up by Gianna Branca who sailed one in at 8:57, 6-4. Both teams traded a point before the break as the halftime score settled at 7-5.
Hartwick outscored the Mustangs 2-1 through the second half's first 10 minutes, bumping up its margin to four. Rosenberg and Abbott swapped tallies before 'Wick credited a 4-0 surge with just over ten minutes remaining.
Morrisville fell victim to a near five-minute scoring drought before Alexis Firkins found the back of the cage, 14-8.
Against the clock, the Mustangs suffered five turnovers. Their final two shot attempts were stopped by Hawk keeper,
Carleigh Tarala (Tully, NY/Tully), both coming behind Rosenberg's goal which concluded scoring on the afternoon. Tarala logged nine saves seeing all of the time in net en route to her fourth victory of the season. Kallie George made 11 saves in the Mustangs' loss.
Defensively, 15 different Hawks' managed to come up with a ground ball led by a quartet of Hawks, Tracey, Pooler,
Megan Young (Gansevoort, NY/Schuylerville) and Darasz, who corralled three each. Werner and Tracey caused two turnovers while Young added four draws.
Women's lacrosse has just two games remaining on its schedule. It will close out league play Saturday when the Hawks host Utica for their Senior Day at 1 p.m. at Wright Stadium.
