’Wick Hits 10-Win Mark in 18-6 Victory over Canton to Wrap Season

ONEONTA, NY – In the first ever meeting between Hartwick and SUNY Canton, Hartwick defeated visiting SUNY Canton by a final score of 18-6 on Tuesday at Wright Stadium. The Hawks end the year on a high note finishing 10-6. The Hawks' 10 wins is the most for the program since 2006. The Roos end at 6-9.

The Hawks' Hailey Pooler (Adams Center, NY/South Jefferson) broke a 19-year old program record with four assists in the game. The total made her the Hartwick single-season assist leader with 36, which broke the previous benchmark set in 1998.

The Hawks commanded the game from start to finish in part to exceptional contributions from Lauren Rosenberg (Smithtown, NY/Commack), Ashley Werner (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties), and Pooler. While Pooler's assists' clip led on the afternoon, Rosenberg and Werner each supplied a game-high six goals as they ended with eight and seven respective points.

Hartwick got off to a hot start netting four goals within the first six minutes of action while only allowing one tally from its opponent.

In the 19th minute, Canton's Allison Auger found the back of the cage easing in on her team's early deficit, 5-2, but a 6-0 run by the host over the next 16 minutes of play put the game out of Canton's reach for good.

Rosenberg's 76 points earned on the year rounds out her career tally at 231 and slots her sixth all-time in the 'Wick record books. She also finishes seventh on the all-time goal list with 185 tallies.

Werner's 44 goals and 18 helpers places her second and third in the respective categories amongst her teammates. She is also second in draw controls with 36.

Freshman Jennifer Darasz's (Gorham, ME/Gorham) 21 goals leads her class while she also tied for second-most in ground balls this season (27).

Mattie Coffey (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) ends the year as an integral member of the Hawks' defensive unit with a squad-leading 20 caused turnovers while sitting second in ground balls (27). Melissa Gifford (Penacook, NH/Merrimack Valley) corralled 29 ground balls to lead all players.
