ONEONTA, NY – Hartwick and Bryant battled to a 0-0 tie through 110 minutes on Saturday evening on Elmore Field. The two teams combined for 33 shots in the match but neither could find the net on the night. The Hawks are now 4-5-1 on the season. The Bulldogs move to 0-7-1.
Hartwick would out-shoot Bryant 5-1 in the overtime periods. With less than a minute left in the first overtime, a pass from
Hamish Ritchie (Aberdeen, Scotland/Aboyne Academy) sent in
Jamie O'Grady (Falkirk, Scotland/Falkirk HS) but he hammered his shot wide of the post. With less than three minutes left in the second extra session, passing to the left side of Bryant's goal from
Jonny Carr (Sunderland, England/Monkwearmouth School) and
Johnny McBeth (Glasgow, Scotland/Upper Iowa University) allowed a service from Ritchie across the box. O'Grady collected the pass and fired but it went wide of the target.
'Wick also had chances in the opening half starting roughly seven minutes in. A free kick from Ritchie was headed to the far post by McBeth. O'Grady was on the doorstep but his header was knocked away by Bryant keeper Nick Stewart. McBeth had a good look six minutes later following a pass from
Marc Berry (Galashiels, Scotland/Galashiels Academy) but his effort was blocked by a Bulldog defender.
The Hawks staved off a Bulldog opportunity with 17 minutes left in the half. A header eluded Hartwick keeper
Lenny Wilson (Aberdeen, Scotland/Cults Academy) who had charged off his line to make a play. Defender
Matt Morrish (Brighton, England/St. Bede's School) cleared the ball out of danger as it crept toward the goal line.
Jack Philp (Edinburgh, Scotland/Currie Community HS) had a long-range shot two minutes later that was saved by Stewart.
Bryant held a 9-4 edge in shots in the second half. Wilson would be credited with six of his nine saves on the night in the half, although none were very troubling for the junior keeper.
Hartwick closed the night with a 17-15 advantage in shots. The Hawks earned three corners to the Bulldogs' two.
'Wick opens up Sun Belt Conference play next weekend. They travel to defending champion Coastal Carolina on Sunday, October 8. Match time is 2 p.m.
