Stevens Stops Hawks’ Streak at Three, 85-66

HOBOKEN, NJ – In a rematch of a triple-overtime game two weeks ago at Lambros, host Stevens Institute of Technology defeated Hartwick's men's basketball team 85-66 on Saturday at Canavan Arena in Hoboken, NJ. The Hawks fall to 7-10 overall and 4-4 in Empire 8 play after a three-game winning streak. The Ducks improve to 15-4 and 9-1 in league play and remain at the top of the standings.

The Hawks would trail by as many as 15 points in the first half before four points apiece from Tommy Kelly (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) and Marc du Moulin (Altamont, NY/Guilderland) and three from Kevin Townes (Lagrangeville, NY/Our Lady of Lourdes) to close the half trimmed the margin to eight, 38-30, at halftime.

A 13-0 Stevens run to start the second half broke the game open. A Brandon LaForest (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes) trey closed the deficit to 12 points with 12:53 left to play, but the Ducks netted the next 10 points and the Hawks never managed to close the gap to less than 19 the rest of the way.

Townes led Hartwick with 23 points and a game-high eight rebounds. He would connect on four three-pointers in the contest. Kelly and du Moulin each contributed eight points and LaForest and Corey Baker (Granby, MA/Granby) scored six points apiece.

The Ducks would make 49% from the floor in the game and they made 14 three-pointers. Spencer Cook paced the Ducks with 26 points and six three-pointers. JoJo Mosca added 14 points and four triples.

Hartwick hosts Sage on Tuesday, January 30 beginning at 6 p.m.
