Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Hawks Fall at Home to Sage on Tuesday Night, 62-53

ONEONTA, NY – Caitlin Corbett (Altamont, NY/Guilderland) and Alexa DuBois (Hobart, NY/South Kortright) combined for 31 points but it wasn't enough as Hartwick's women's basketball team lost a 62-53 decision to visiting Sage Colleges Tuesday night at Lambros Arena.

Hartwick slips to 5-13 overall and 4-5 in the Empire 8 with the result. Sage improves to 13-6 and 7-3 in league play,

Corbett netted a game-high 19 points to go along with a game-high four assists, five rebounds, and three three-pointers. DuBois made 6-of-8 from the floor for 12 points. Carly Johnson (Greenville, NY/Greenville Central) added eight points and she tied for a team-high with six rebounds. She also dished out three assists.

Kelly Pine (Hoosick Falls, NY/Hoosick Falls) had five points, four boards, three steals, and two assists. Victoria Sacramone (Bayside, NY/St. Mary's) contributed five points and Mary Schoenherr (Unionville, CT/Farmington) scored four points and grabbed six rebounds.

The lead would change hands three times in the opening quarter. A jumper from DuBois put the Hawks ahead 8-6 but a three from Sage's Emily Parslow would give the Gators the lead to stay 39 seconds later.

After leading 14-10 after the first quarter, the Gators would increase the margin to 12 in the second quarter, 24-12. The Hawks scored six of the quarter's final eight points to make it 26-18 Sage's favor at halftime.

Hartwick chipped away at its deficit and cut it to a two-point game, 38-36, on a Corbett triple with 2:17 left in the third quarter. An 8-0 Sage spurt over the final 1:49 would hand the Gators a 45-36 edge heading into the final quarter.

The Sage lead grew to 13 early in the fourth but eight straight points from Corbett would close the gap to seven, 51-44, with 7:22 to play in the game. Later, a Johnson three once again made it a seven-point contest, but the Gators got the next bucket and they led by at least eight points the rest of the way.

The Hawks shot 38% as a group in the game. The Gators made 43% and they held a decisive edge on the glass, 44-27, which included 18 offensive rebounds.

Parslow finished with 16 points to lead Sage. Genevieve Schoff added 14 points and Kaitlyn Bowman scored 10. Megan Flynn had the game-high in rebounds with 10.

The Hawks return to action on the road on Friday night at Nazareth. Tip-off is 8 p.m.
