ONEONTA, NY – Hartwick men's swimming and diving won its dual meet opener on Friday night at Moyer Pool, defeating Brandeis University 165-115. The Hawks won eight events on the night.
Yury Chernyak (Sidney, NY/Sidney) and
Oleg Gentry (Stamford, CT/Trinity Pawling) each captured top points in two events. Chernyak won the 50 breast in a time of 27.86.
Hunter McRee (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks East) took second as the Hawks went 1-2 in the event. Chernyak also won the 100 breast in a time of 1:00.49. Gentry was first in both diving events. He scored 151.50 in the 1-meter and 170.90 in the 3-meter event.
Aron Zhang (Douglaston, NY/Brooklyn Technical) and
Nathan Marshall (St. John's, Antigua and Barbuda/St. Anthony's) also turned in winning swims for Hartwick. Zhang won the 50 back (25.59) with
Brennan Walsh (Westerville, NY/New Albany Plains) finishing second. Marshall (22.25) edged out
Michael Baione (Poughquag, NY/Arlington) by 0.01 seconds in the 50 free with
Zach Skelton (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) taking third for a 1-2-3 Hartwick finish.
The Hawks swept the relay events. Zhang, Chernyak,
Kaelan Bertrian (Curacao, Netherlands Antilles/Trinity Christian), and Baione combined for a win in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:39.40. Baione, Skelton, Bertrian, and Marshall teamed up to take the top spot in the 200 free relay in 1:28.64.
Hartwick gets back to action tomorrow at Moyer Pool with a quad-meet with St. Rose, Utica, and Cobleskill. Diving begins at 9 a.m. with swimming to follow at 1 p.m.
