ONEONTA, NY – Hartwick's men's swimming and diving team fell to visiting Nazareth on Saturday at Moyer Pool by a final count of 167-127. The loss knocks the Hawks from the unbeaten ranks and drops them to 6-1.
The Hawks won four events on the day. They also had 10 second-place efforts.
Yury Chernyak (Sidney, NY/Sidney) won two events to pace Hartwick. He took top honors in the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:00.21. He then touched the wall first in the 200 breaststroke in 2:11.91. Chernyak would also finish second in the 200 individual medley (2:03.23).
Brennan Walsh (Westerville, OH/New Albany Plains) swam to first place in the 100 freestyle. His time was 48.67 seconds.
Ryan McLoughlin (New Windsor, NY/Our Lady of Lourdes) won the 500 freestyle in 5:01.64.
Max Ferrick (Westford, MA/Westford Academy) placed second (5:04.34).
Aron Zhang (Douglaston, NY/Brooklyn Technical) had a pair of second-place swims in the 100 backstroke (54.43) and 100 butterfly (53.18).
Isaac Waide (East Haddam, CT/Nathan Hale-Ray) was second in the 1000 free (10:27.00). Ferrick finished in the same spot in the 200 free (1:49.82).
Pacal Fernandez (San Pedro, CA/San Pedro) was runner-up in the 200 butterfly (2:05.68) with
Michael Baione (Poughquag, NY/Arlington) finishing in second place in the 100 freestyle (48.67).
Zhang, McLoughlin,
Oleg Gentry (Stamford, CT/Trinity Pawling), and Baione teamed up to place second in the 200 medley relay (1:38.60). Baione,
Nathan Marshall (St. John's, Antigua and Barbuda/St. Anthony's), Ferrick, and
Zach Skelton (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) combined to take second in the 200 free relay (1:29.59).
Hartwick is back at Moyer Pool next Saturday when the Hawks host SUNY Oneonta at 1 p.m.
