ONEONTA, NY – Hartwick had its five-match winning streak snapped on Saturday as nationally nineteenth ranked Stevens topped the Hawks 19-4 on Saturday at Wright Stadium. The Ducks would use a 6-0 run to start the second half and a 5-0 spurt to close the game to secure the win.
Hartwick (7-4, 3-2 E8) had four different goal scorers in the game.
Ashley Werner (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties),
Emma Knapp (Canandaigua, NY/Marcus Whitman), and
Hanna Layton (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Forks) scored in the first half.
GinaMarie Wilson (East Meadow, NY/East Meadow) added a second-half tally.
Hailey Pooler (Adams Center, NY/South Jefferson) contributed an assist.
It took over 10 minutes of action for the game's first goal from the Ducks. It would mark a three-goal run in 1:42 as they took a 3-0 lead. Werner answered from Pooler before the Ducks added their fourth. Knapp scored unassisted near the midway point of the half, but Stevens came back with three tallies in 3:27. Layton closed the gap to four, 7-3, and the Ducks scored with under a minute left for an 8-3 halftime lead.
The Ducks broke loose in the second half with six goals in the first 6:44. Wilson scored Hartwick's fourth goal at 17:01. The visitors netted five more over the last 15:06.
Stevens out-shot 'Wick 34-17 in the game. The Ducks controlled the draw, 17-7, and had more ground balls, 20-14.
Knapp had a team-high four draws. She tied with
Emma Kaplan (Danbury, CT/Danbury) and
Ashley Egerter (Rocky Point, NY/Rocky Point) for a team-high two ground balls. Egerter also caused two turnovers.
Emily Shanklin led Stevens with seven goals and an assist. She also had a game-high 10 draws. Julianna Ricci added four goals and an assist, Kyra Bednarski had three tallies and three assists, and Brianne Salera chipped in three goals. Stephanie Schnelzer made six saves in cage.
Carleigh Tarala (Tully, NY/Tully) made four saves for the Hawks.
Jennifer Paszko (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) stopped three shots in the second half.
Hartwick travels to Utica on Wednesday, April 18 at 4 p.m.
