Hawks Fall to Naz in Season Finale

ONEONTA, NY – Hartwick women's lacrosse closed out its season on Saturday with an 18-7 loss to Nazareth College (11-5, 6-2 E8) at Wright Stadium.
           
Emma Knapp (Canandaigua, NY/Marcus Whitman) led the Hawks with three goals on the day. Hailey Pooler (Adams Center, NY/South Jefferson) and GinaMarie Wilson (East Meadow, NY/East Meadow) each registered a goal and an assist. Ashley Werner (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties) and Minnie Schupp (Menands, NY/Shaker) each scored goals and Jennifer Darasz (Gorham, ME/Gorham) recorded an assist.
           
Naz jumped out to a 5-0 lead just past the midway point of the opening half. Knapp got the Hawks on the scoreboard at 8:37 and after the Golden Flyers scored four more times, Pooler and Werner tallied to make the score 9-3 at halftime.
           
The visitors scored a trio of goals to start the second half. Knapp added back-to-back tallies to bring the score to 12-5 but the Flyers scored the next four to put the game out of reach. Schupp and Wilson finished the Hartwick scoring with goals under the seven-minute mark.
           
Naz held a 46-21 edge in shots in the contest. The Golden Flyers also recorded 32 ground balls to Hartwick's 20. They edged out the Hawks in draws, 14-13.
           
Ashley Jablonowski (Levittown, NY/Island Trees) made a career-high 18 saves in the Hartwick cage. Katie Weaver (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) grabbed team-highs of five ground balls and two caused turnovers. Mattie Coffey (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) added four ground balls and Schupp contributed three. Knapp collected five draws for the Hawks. Wilson added four and Pooler accumulated three.
           
The game served as Hartwick Senior Day with the honoring of Werner and Coffey before the game. Werner closes out her final season with 62 goals, which is tied for seventh in program history. She finishes her career with 137 goals and 34 assists for 171 points. Coffey ends her four-year career with 113 ground balls and 58 caused turnovers.
           
The Hawks end their season with an 8-6 overall record and a 4-4 mark in the Empire 8, good enough for fifth place in the final standings. The four E8 wins ties a program record.
