ONEONTA, NY – The Hartwick men's swimming and diving team went undefeated during Saturday's home meet, taking down a trio of opponents. They beat Utica, 235-40, The College of St. Rose, 198-92, and SUNY Cobleskill, 224-41.
The Hawks won both of the day's relays. They started out with a win in the 200 medley, taking it in 1:37.79 thanks to a team of Brennan Walsh (Westerville, OH/New Albany Plains), Ryan McLoughlin (New Windsor, NY/Our Lady of Lourdes), Oleg Gentry (Stamford, CT/Trinity-Pawling), and Diallo Marshall (Saint George, Antigua & Barbuda/St. Anthony's). In the meet's final race, they grabbed first in the 200 free relay, as Marshall, Zach Skelton (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima), Reid Sinkinson (Telford, PA/Souderton Area), and McLoughlin combined for a time of 1:29.33.
The Hawks dominated individually as well, winning nine of 12 races. Four swimmers had two wins each. McLoughlin won the 100 breast in 1:00.29 and later showed his versatility with a victory in the 500 free, touching up in 5:01.77. 'Wick swept the podium in the 500 free, as Nic Canney (Chandler, AZ/Corona del Sol) and Javonte Herbert (Houston, TX/Cy Springs) took second and third in 5:07.00 and 5:10.79, respectively. Yury Chernyak (Sidney, NY/Sidney) also had two wins, in the 200 IM (2:03.84) and 200 breast (2:10.20). The next best Hawk in each of those races was Kenneth Lok (Livingston, NJ/Livingston), who was second in the 200 IM in 2:08.65 and third in the 200 breast in 2:27.82.
Hartwick's freshmen had the rest of the wins. Dawson Tupponce (Phoenix, AZ/Desert Vista) had a pair of victories, in the 100 breast (1:00.29) and 200 fly (2:03.47). He was followed in the latter by Colin Leonard (Slingerlands, NY/Bethlehem), who took silver in the 200 fly with a time of 2:10.66. Marshall matched Tupponce with two of his own wins, winning back-to-back races in the 50 and 100 free, finishing in 21.78 and 48.96 seconds, respectively. Sinkinson was second in both of those heats, finishing with times of 22.53 and 39.83.
Canney had the other 'Wick win, taking a marathon 1000 free in 10:24.93. Isaac Waide (East Haddam, CT/Nathan Hale Ray) was in second, with a time of 10:48.10.
Jordan Leandro (Watervliet, NY/Shaker) competed in diving for Hartwick, registering a score of 209.15 in the 1-meter dive (the best of three participants) and 169.90 in the 3-meter dive.
The Hawks keep their season going in a week, when they travel to New Paltz on Saturday, November 2 for a 1 p.m. meet with a different Hawks squad.
