NEW PALTZ, NY – Freshman Dawson Tupponce (Phoenix, AZ/Desert Vista) led the way for the Hartwick men's swimming and diving team on Saturday at New Paltz, as the team from Oneonta won the Battle of the Hawks, 156.5-100.5. The win keeps 'Wick undefeated, as they are now 5-0.

Hartwick started the day strong, with a win in the opening 200 medley relay. Brennan Walsh (Westerville, OH/New Albany Plains), Yury Chernyak (Sidney, NY/Sidney), Oleg Gentry (Stamford, CT/Trinity-Pawling), and Diallo Marshall (Saint George, Antigua & Barbuda/St. Anthony's) teamed up for the win, clocking in at 1:39.85.

The team's two leading freshmen, Tupponce and Marshall, combined for five wins. Tupponce took the victory in the 200 free (1:50.75), 200 fly (2:04.36), and 100 fly (55:01), while Marshall claimed the 50 free (22.23) and 100 free (49.33).

Walsh had a pair of his own individual wins to go with his relay victory. He touched up in first in the 100 back in a time of 56.55 seconds, and followed that up later with a victory in the 200 back in 2:07.12. In the latter, he was followed by teammates Rowan Poppen-Eagan (Puyallup, WA/Puyallup) (2:10.83) and Kyle Fisher (Oneida, NY/Oneida) (2:13.07) in second and third, respectively.

Chernyak joined his relay-mate with the final two individual Hartwick wins, in the 100 breast (59.44) and 200 breast (2:10.23).

The Hawks are back in action next Saturday, November 9, when they travel up to Rochester for a date with Nazareth at 1 p.m.
