NEW PALTZ, NY – Abby Schwartz (Olean, NY/Olean) paced the Hartwick women's swimming and diving team with three individual wins on Saturday afternoon at New Paltz, as 'Wick downed their hosts in the Battle of the Hawks, 142-119. The victory brings Hartwick to 4-1 on the year.
Schwartz's three wins all came in freestyle events, mid-distance or longer. She won the 200 free in 2:03.56, with teammate and namemate Abby Miller (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) right behind her at 2:03.75. Schwartz also claimed the title in the 500 free, at 5:31.17, and 1000 free, touching up in 11:17.93. The latter race was the first individual heat of the day.
Olivia Bart (Bristol, CT/Bristol Eastern) had a couple of individual wins herself. As she often does, she took home the crown in the 50 free (25.07) seconds and 100 free (55.26 seconds). Tori Argentieri (East Amherst, NY/Clarence) matched Bart's two wins, in the 100 fly (1:02.16) and 200 fly (2:17.27). Argentieri also had a second-place finish in the 200 IM, finishing in 2:19.70.
Gina Grauer (West Lawn, PA/Wilson) had the only other Hartwick individual win on the day, beating all other comers in the 100 breast with a time of 1:09.76. She was oh-so-close in the 200 breast, as her time of 2:32.43 was just .48 seconds behind the winner's 2:31.95.
Bart, Miller, Schwartz, and Grauer ended the day strong for the Hawks, winning the day's final race, the 200 free relay. They combined to clock in at 1:43.28.
The Hawks are back in action next Saturday, November 9, when they travel up to Rochester for a date with Nazareth at 1 p.m.
