ONEONTA, NY – The Hartwick volleyball team split their two matches on the final day of the season, defeating Baruch, 3-1, and losing to Eastern 3-0, on the second day of the Dig Pink Invitational hosted by SUNY Oneonta. The Hawks finish their season at 16-11, over .500 for the first time since 2007. The .593 winning percentage is also the best mark in program history, besting 1997's .558.
Match One vs. Baruch (25-17, 25-20, 23-25, 25-14)
- The Hawks won all their sets by at least five points, including the first and last by eight or more, and lost by just the minimum two in the third set, as Baruch staved off elimination.
- Maria Sorriento (Troy, NY/Troy) led all players with 18 kills, contributing five digs and three blocks as well.
- Toria Betelak (North Syracuse, NY/Liverpool) led all players not named Sorriento with 16 kills on a superb .516 attack percentage. She would wind up at the end of the day with a .360 percentage on the season, top in the conference. Betelak also had four blocks, including one solo.
- Kiera Walsh (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) had a team-high 17 digs, her second-highest total of the season, and was followed closely by Katie Boak (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool), who had 15 digs as well as a match-high four aces.
- Colette Maloney (Williston Park, NY/Mineola) had a solid all-around match, with nine kills, 12 digs, three aces, and a block.
- Kayley Ericson (Franklin, CT/Norwich Free Academy) did the setting for the Hawks, putting up 40 assists, and also narrowly missing a double-double with nine digs; she registered three kills and a block, in addition.
- The Hawks are now 5-3 all-time against Baruch.
Match Two vs. Eastern (14-25, 17-25, 17-25)
- The Hawks went down fairly easily to a talented Wildcats team, losing in straight sets.
- Sorriento again led the Hawks in kills, this time with 11. Maloney had the next-highest total, with six kills, and had nine digs.
- Ericson got her double-double this time, accumulating 23 assists and 10 digs. Boak was just ahead of her in digs, with 11.
- Ericson ends her season with 841 assists, the fifth-highest total in program history.
- This was Hartwick's first ever battle with Eastern.
