Men’s Swimming and Diving Moves to 7-1 with Win over Bard

ONEONTA, NY – Nine different swimmers had individual wins on Saturday afternoon in Moyer Pool, as the Hartwick men's swimming and diving team won their meet against Bard, 236-27. The win lifts the Hawks to an impressive 7-1 on the year.

Brennan Walsh (Westerville, OH/New Albany Plains), Kenneth Lok (Livingston, NJ/Livingston), and Javonte Herbert (Houston, TX/Cy Springs) each led the Hawks with two wins.

Walsh won the 50 and 100 back events, in respective times of 26.42 seconds and 56.03 seconds. He was followed by teammates Kyle Fisher (Oneida, NY/Oneida) (29.17 seconds in the 50 back) and Yury Chernyak (Sidney, NY/Sidney) (57.99 seconds in the 100 back).

Lok had wins in two different event types, the 100 free and 100 IM. He grabbed gold in the freestyle with a time of 53.61 seconds, as Fisher came in second in 54.50 seconds. Lok later got the win in the IM in 1:00.95, with teammate Colin Leonard (Slingerlands, NY/Bethlehem) nabbing silver in 1:01.42.

Like Lok, Herbert also showcased some versatility, with wins in the 1000 free and 100 breast. He won the 1000 free with a time of 10:30.54; Rowan Poppen-Eagan (Puyallup, WA/Puyallup) was second in 10:46.26. Herbert won the 100 breast later on, with a team of 1:06.87.

The other Hartwick individual victories were as follows:

  • Dawson Tupponce (Phoenix, AZ/Desert Vista) in the 200 free with a time of 1:51.79. Zach Skelton (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) was second in 1:52.68;
  • Chernyak claimed first in the 50 breast, touching up in 27.73 seconds, and was followed up by Leonard in 29.56 seconds;
  • Reid Sinkinson (Telford, PA/Souderton Area) got the win in the 100 fly in 57.39 seconds; teammate Ryan McLoughlin (New Windsor, NY/Our Lady of Lourdes) was just .20 seconds behind him;
  • Skelton grabbed the victory in the 50 free in 22.96 seconds, beating out Oleg Gentry's (Stamford, CT/Trinity-Pawling) 24.58 seconds;
  • McLoughlin got the win in the 500 free with a time of 5:00.93, as Poppen-Eagan took second in 5:19.33;
  • and Gentry was first in the 50 fly, touching up in 24.95 seconds, followed up by Sinkinson in second in 25.51 seconds.

Hartwick also won both of the day's relays. Walsh, McLoughlin, Gentry, and Skelton won the 400 medley in 3:46.49, while a team of Tupponce, Walsh, Skelton, and McLoughlin was first in the 400 free in 3:21.51.

Diver Jordan Leandro (Watervliet, NY/Shaker) registered a score of 193.75 in the one-meter dive and 194.35 in the three-meter dive.

Hartwick is off for Thanksgiving break and returns to action in two weekends, when they participate in the Ithaca College Invitational from Friday, December 6, through Sunday, December 8.
