ROCHESTER, NY – The Hartwick men's swimming and diving team fell to a talented Nazareth College team on Saturday afternoon, dropping the dual meet by a 172-122 score. The loss is the first of the year for the Hawks, as they fall to 5-1.
Yury Chernyak (Sidney, NY/Sidney) and Dawson Tupponce (Phoenix, AZ/Desert Vista) each led the Hawks with two wins.
Chernyak won the 100 and 200 breast events, with respective times of 1:05.70 and 2:24.95. He also finished second in the 200 IM, at 2:18.21. Tupponce showed some versatility, taking gold in the 200 free with a time of 1:59.36 and touching up in 1:00.86 for first in the 100 fly. He also had a second-place finish to his name, in the 200 fly (2:15.01).
Diallo Marshall (Saint George, Antigua & Barbuda/St. Anthony's) had Hartwick's only other win on the day, winning the 50 free in 24.26 seconds. He was second in the 100 free, at 54.87 seconds.
Ryan McLoughlin (New Windsor, NY/Our Lady of Lourdes) had two silvers in the meet; the first came in the 100 breast, where he was a little under four seconds behind Chernyak at 1:09.38, and the other was in the 400 free, with a time of 4:20.22. Brennan Walsh (Westerville, OH/New Albany Plains) and Nic Canney (Chandler, AZ/Corona Del Sol) had the other two second-place finishes for the Hawks. Walsh touched up in the 100 back in 1:02.86, while Canney was second in the 800 free in 9:06.05.
The Hawks return to action next Saturday for a home meet with city rival Oneonta, beginning at 1 p.m. in Moyer Pool.
