First-Half Rally From Naz Seals Hawks’ Fate in 3-0 Defeat

ONEONTA, NY – Visiting Nazareth scored three times in a 9:44 window in the first half which was all the scoring the Golden Flyers needed as they defeated Hartwick 3-0 on Saturday on Elmore Field.

'Wick slips to 2-6 overall with the loss. Nazareth improves to 7-2-1 with the win.

The Hawks handed the Flyers their first tally as a Naz shot was redirected into the 'Wick net for an own goal in the 17th minute.

In the 24th minute the Flyers added to their total after a foul in the 'Wick box resulted in a penalty. Dan Serpe stepped up for the kick and put it past Hartwick keeper Britt Reisman (Vero Beach, FL/Saint Edward's School) to the right side of goal to double the margin.

Just 1:19 later, Serpe tallied his fifth of the season. A long ball up the sideline from the back from Dereck France made it to the corner of the Hartwick 18-yard box. Serpe out-muscled a defender and put the ball up and over a charging Reisman and into the empty goal for what would prove to be the last of the day's scoring.

Joey Bertone (Jamesville, NY/Jamesville-DeWitt) accounted for two of the Hawks' three shots on the day. Troy Amegashie (Accra, Ghana/Tema International School) had the other. None of the three made it on target. Resiman finished the afternoon with three saves. Brian Wilkin played all 90 minutes in the clean sheet for Nazareth.

Hartwick men's soccer is off until next Saturday when it hosts another Empire 8 opponent in Alfred University. Kickoff is 3 p.m.
