DELHI, NY – Hartwick won all six singles matches in straight sets to cruise to an 8-1 victory over host SUNY Delhi on Wednesday. The win was the first of the 2019 campaign for the Hawks and first in the career of first-year head coach
Samantha Butcher.
Hartwick (1-2) took a 2-1 lead after doubles play with
Victoria Wilson (Trenton, NY/Trenton Catholic) and
Skylar Watts (Rome, NY/Vernon-Verona-Sherrill) cruising to an 8-0 triumph in first doubles.
Taylor D'Andrea (Ballston Spa, NY/Saratoga Springs) and
Alyssa Wadsworth (Ilion, NY/Central Valley Academy) also combined for a win in third doubles, 8-6.
Wilson and Watts each won their singles matches to move to 2-1 on the young season. They both only dropped two games in the process. Wilson won handily in the first flight, 6-2, 6-0. Watts earned a 6-1, 6-1 victory in second singles.
Hannah Pettis (Glens Falls, NY/Glens Falls) was the victor at third singles, 6-1, 6-3
. Jessica Best (Niskayuna, NY/Colonie) won 6-4, 6-0 in the fourth slot. D'Andrea secured a victory in fifth singles, 7-5, 6-4. Wadsworth dropped just three games in the sixth flight, 6-2, 6-1.
Hartwick looks to make it two wins in a row on Saturday. The Hawks travel to Annandale-on-Hudson to face Bard College at 1 p.m.
