Men’s Swimming and Diving Splits Tri-Meet at Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, MA – The Hartwick men's swimming and diving team won four individual events and both of the day's relays on Saturday afternoon, as they came away with one win in a tri-meet hosted by Springfield College. They defeated Union in neutral water, 207-66, and fell narrowly to Springfield, 152-146. The Hawks are now 9-2 on the season.

'Wick started the day victorious, grabbing a win in the 200 medley relay. A team of Brennan Walsh (Westerville, OH/New Albany Plains), Ryan McLoughlin (New Windsor, NY/Our Lady of Lourdes), Reid Sinkinson (Telford, PA/Souderton Area), and Diallo Marshall (Saint George, Antigua & Barbuda/St. Anthony's) touched up in 1:39.62. The Hawks won the 400 free relay later on, as Marshall, Zach Skelton (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima), Dawson Tupponce (Phoenix, AZ/Desert Vista), and McLoughlin finished in 3:16.81

Yury Chernyak (Sidney, NY/Sidney) had two individual wins on the day, both in breaststroke events. He won the 100 breast with a time of 59.68 seconds and the 200 breast in 2:13.30, and also claimed second in the 200 IM (2:02.91). Chernyak was followed in second in both events by McLoughlin, who had respective times of 1:00.59 and 2:20.53

The other two 'Wick wins went to Marshall, who claimed first in the 50 free with a time of 21.88 seconds (ahead of Sinkinson at 22.91 seconds in the silver position), and Nic Canney (Chandler, AZ/Corona del Sol), who took home the distance 1000 free in 10:14.02. Canney was followed by Isaac Waide (East Haddam, CT/Nathan Hale-Ray), who touched up in 10:18.16.

Other top-three finishes for Hartwick include:

  • Tupponce at second in the 200 free (1:59.56), 100 fly (54.88 seconds), and 200 fly (2:04.41);
  • Marshall (second, 48.71 seconds) and Skelton (third, 50.96 seconds) in the 100 free;
  • Walsh at second in the 100 back (56.52 seconds) and third in the 200 back (2:04.75);
  • and Canney in the 500 free, who was third with a time of 5:02.13

Diver Jordan Leandro (Watervliet, NY/Shaker) had a score of 338.71 in the one-meter event and 285.38 in the three-meter dives.

The Hawks return home next week, when they take on Empire 8 foe Alfred on Saturday, January 18 at 1 p.m. in Moyer Pool.
