Men’s Swimming and Diving Takes Down Empire 8 Foe Alfred

ONEONTA, NY – The Hartwick men's swimming and diving team won 12 of the 14 swimming events in Saturday's meet against Empire 8 rival Alfred in Moyer Pool, securing a 172-117 win in the process. The win moves the Hawks to 10-2 on the season.

'Wick began the day on a high note, as a team of Brennan Walsh (Westerville, OH/New Albany Plains), Ryan McLoughlin (New Windsor, NY/Our Lady of Lourdes), Reid Sinkinson (Telford, PA/Souderton Area), and Diallo Marshall (Saint George, Antigua & Barbuda/St. Anthony's) was first in the 200 medley relay, touching up in 1:38.87. Later on, Marshall, Zach Skelton (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima), Dawson Tupponce (Phoenix, AZ/Desert Vista), and McLoughlin bookended the meet by claiming first in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:28.72.

Four Hawks had multiple individual wins on the day, led by Tupponce's three. He showed off his versatility with wins in the 200 free (1:49.28), 200 fly (2:02.63), and 100 fly (54.72 seconds). Tupponce was followed in second in the 200 free by Javonte Herbert (Houston, TX/Cy Springs) at 1:50.35 and in the 200 fly by Colin Leonard (Slingerlands, NY/Bethlehem) at 2:06.07.

Yury Chernyak (Sidney, NY/Sidney) had wins in the 200 IM and 200 breast, with respective times of 2:02.16 and 2:11.97. McLoughlin grabbed gold in the 100 breast in 58.98 seconds (followed shortly after by Chernyak in second at 59.24 seconds) and in the 500 free with a time of 4:58.12. Teammates Nic Canney (Chandler, AZ/Corona del Sol) and Herbert were in second and third, respectively, touching up in 5:01.41 and 5:03.25.

Marshall was the other multiple-race winner for 'Wick, winning the 50 free in 21.53 seconds and the 100 free in 48.32 seconds. Skelton was second in the 100 free, finishing in 50.70 seconds.

Canney had the only other win on the day, in the long-distance 1650 free. He had a time of 17:07.82, ahead of Isaac Waide's (East Haddam, CT/Nathan Hale-Ray) second-place time of 17:15.28.

Diver Jordan Leandro (Watervliet, NY/Shaker) had a score of 189.65 in both the one-meter and three-meter diving events.

The Hawks have their final home meet of the season next Saturday, January 25 at 12 p.m. against Worcester Polytechnic Institute. They will honor the team's seniors and their parents before the start of the meet.
