HOBOKEN, NJ – The Hartwick women's swimming and diving team earned six individual wins and one relay win on Saturday, taking down former Empire 8 rival Stevens in the process, 140-122. The meet was the final one of the regular season for the Hawks, as they end the season at 8-6.
Olivia Bart (Bristol, CT/Bristol Eastern) led the way with her patented 1-2 punch in the 50 and 100 freestyle events, winning both. She swam a time of 24.40 seconds in the 50 and 54.88 in the 100.
Four other Hawks had individual wins on the day, starting with Abby Miller (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) in the meet's first individual event, the 1000 free, which she took with a time of 11:12.68. Gina Grauer (West Lawn, PA/Wilson) came next with a win in the breast at 1:11.32, starting a run of five straight Hartwick victories. Tori Argentieri (East Amherst, NY/Clarence) followed by claiming the crown in the 200 fly with a time of 2:16.67, and she was trailed by teammates Gabrielle Grimley (Leominster, MA/Leominster) at 2:25.81 and Starr Harford (Waverly, NY/Waverly) at 2:27.91 in second and third, respectively. Bart's two wins were next, and Channing Lewis (Canton, OH/Canton McKinley) finished off the string of victories with a time of 2:17.51 in the 200 back.
Other notable individual Hartwick finishes include:
- Abby Schwartz (Olean, NY/Olean) in second in the 200 free, at 2:04.22;
- Lewis and Miller five-hundredths of a second apart in second and third in the 100 back, at 1:05.92 and 1:05.97;
- Grauer swiping silver by clocking in at 2:35.58 in the 200 breast;
- Miller with a 5:28.65 finish in the 500 free, good for second place;
- and Argentieri at second in the 100 fly (1:02.62) and 200 IM (2:19.80).
The Hawks won the final race of the day, the 200 free relay. Bart, Grauer, Schwartz, and Miller teamed up for a time of 1:41.73. 'Wick was also second in the opening 400 medley relay, as Lewis, Grauer, Argentieri, and Bart clocked in at 4:11.05.
The Hawks are off from competition now until Wednesday, February 19, when they participate in the opening day of the first Allegheny Empire Championship. The event combines the schools of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate and Empire 8 Conferences, and will run through Saturday, February 22.
