FARMINGDALE, NY – Host Farmingdale State out-scored Hartwick 7-1 in the first quarter and never looked back in a 20-10 defeat of the Hawks Saturday in Farmingdale, NY. With the loss, the Hawks slip to 0-2 on the season. The Rams remain unbeaten at 6-0.
Kainen Francis-Thompson (Hogansburg, NY/Massena) led the Hawks with three goals on the day.
Tim Watson (Wrentham, MA/King Philip Regional) added two goals and two assists and
Dylan Ferguson (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin) contributed a pair of goals and an assist.
The Rams opened the scoring at the 9:40 mark and added to their total 33 seconds later for a 2-0 lead. Watson answered for the Hawks at 7:12 but the hosts rattled off five straight goals in the final 5:14, including their last with one tick left on the clock, to take a commanding 7-1 lead after 15 minutes.
The two teams traded goals throughout the second quarter with Ferguson,
Alec Lind (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills Ballston Lake), Francis-Thompson, and
David Demand (Chittenango, NY/Chittenango) all scoring for the Hawks. The Rams scored twice in the final minute to take a 12-5 lead into halftime.
Justin Curreri (Miller Place, NY/Rocky Point), Ferguson, and Francis-Thompson scored in the third, but each time Farmingdale answered right back. The Rams headed into the final quarter up seven, 15-8.
They would increase their lead with a pair of goals in the first 1:33 of the final period. Watson scored at the 6:01 mark but the Rams added three more goals before Francis-Thompson closed out the scoring with 1:33 remaining on the clock.
Farmingdale had a slight edge in shots, 45-44 and the Rams had a sizable advantage in ground balls at a 49-33 clip. The hosts won 21-of-34 face-offs on the day.
Demand had two assists to match Watson's total. Lind added one helper. He joined
Tyler Coleman (Round Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) for the team-high with five ground balls. Francis-Thompson and Demand each added three. Demand registered three caused turnovers with Watson,
Louis Cappellino (Northport, NY/Kings Park),
Tyler Rivera (Guilderland, NY/Guilderland), and
C.J. Denson (West Hartford, CT/Conard) each chipping in two.
C.J. Alesandrini (Schenectady, NY/Colonie) made eight saves in the Hawks' goal.
Farmingdale was led by Rob Varello's six goals. Blake Behlen added five tallies and three assists.
