BUFFALO, NY – The Hartwick men's soccer team has hit a bit of a skid lately, as they have now lost their last three games by a combined 8-0 scoreline. The perpetrator this time was future Empire 8 Conference member Medaille, as the Mavericks welcomed the Hawks to their home turf before turning them away with a 3-0 loss. The Hawks are now 6-5-2 on the season, while Medaille improves to 9-3-1.
Medaille had the upper hand in the first half, outshooting the Hawks 10-5, but could not find the back of the net. The score remained unbroken after 45 minutes.
It took under six minutes into the second half for that to change, however. Ander Castillo sent one into the lower left of the goal at 50:41, with Eric Metade picking up the assist. The Mavericks doubled their lead under six minutes later, when Solomon Konesky's solo effort into the lower right portion of the goal made it 2-0. Joseph Avallone rounded out the scoring by putting one into the top left area of the net in the 69th minute, as Metade picked up his second assist of the day.
Jimmy Noel (Cap Haitian, Haiti/Baldwin) led the Hawks with a career-high six shots for the game, three of which went on target. Jake Zona (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) had three shots, while Ethan Kaiser (Red Hook, NY/Red Hook) had a pair of tries at net. Jackson Gilstrap (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) made his second career start in net playing all 90 minutes and making six saves in the process.
Medaille had a slim lead in shots, outchancing the Hawks by a 17-14 margin. The two sides were tied with four corner kicks apiece.
'Wick hopes to turn things around on Tuesday, when they travel to Albany to take on Russell Sage in a crucial game for their Empire 8 playoff hopes. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
