ONEONTA, NY – The Hartwick men's swimming and diving team went 3-0 during the home meet in Moyer Pool on Saturday, crushing all opposing teams by over 150 points. They defeated SUNY Delhi (238-8), Utica College (236-23), and The College of Saint Rose (211-53).
The Hawks started the meet off strong going 1-2 in the 200 Medley Relay. The A relay won with Devin Masongsong (Pleasant Hill, CA College Park), Sebastian Knowles (Plano, TX/Plano West Senior), Michael Schultz (Binghamton, NY Chenango Valley) and Diallo Marshall (Saint George, Antigua & Barbuda/St. Anthony's) with a time of 1:39.78. The B relay came in second, led by Justin Diamond (Morrisville, VT/Peoples Academy), Colin Leonard (Slingerlands, NY/Bethlehem), Reid Sinkinson (Telford, PA/Souderton Area), and Evan Nezat (Jacksonville, NC/Jacksonville) with a time of 1:45.43.
In the 1000 freestyle, Brady Haraden (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) won with a time of 10:34.90, followed closely by teammate Nic Canney (Chandler, AZ/Corona Del Sol) with a time of 10:38.17. Hartwick also went 1-2 in the 200 freestyle, won by Dawson Tupponce (Phoenix, AZ/Desert Vista) with a 1:50.89, followed by Masongsong with a 1:52.18. The Hawks swept the 100 breaststroke, placing 1-4, although only three of them counted towards the score. Leonard won the event with a 1:03.22, followed by Knowles with a 1:04.53. Sam Cole (Albany, NY/Guilderland) came in third with a 1:08.18. Hartwick continued their impressive showing with Schultz and Tupponce dominating the 200 butterfly, going first and second, respectively. Marshall and Sinkinson placed 1-2 in the 50 freestyle as well.
The Hawks continued to dominate in the second half of the meet. Marshall won the 100 freestyle with a time of 48.35. They swept the 200 breaststroke as well, with Leonard taking the gold with a 2:22.50 followed by Cole with a 2:29.30, and Nick Budzynski (Fairfax, VA/Bishop Ireton) placing third with a 2:31.50. Haraden and Canney swept the 500 as well, going 1-2 in a close race decided by less than a second. Schultz, Tupponce, and Masongsong went 1-3 respectively in the 100 butterfly, while Schultz and Leonard went 1-2 in the 200 IM. The A relay in the 200 freestyle relay finished off the strong performance by the Hawks with Marshall, Tupponce, Budzynski, and Sinkinson winning via a time of 1:30.74.
Hartwick had two more second place finishes. Diamond came in second in the 100 backstroke and Haraden placed second in the 200 backstroke.
The Hawks are back at it in two weeks when they host Empire 8 foe Nazareth College at 1 p.m. on November 6.
