ONEONTA, NY – The Hartwick men's swimming and diving team beat Empire 8 rival and defending conference champion Nazareth this Saturday in Moyer Pool, scoring 189 to Nazareth's 98. This brings the Hawks' record to 4-0 and Nazareth's record to 1-3.
The Hawks took first place in nearly every event. Starting off the meet with the 200 medley relay, the team composed of Devin Masongsong (Pleasant Hill, CA/College Park), Sebastian Knowles (Plano, TX/Plano West Senior), Michael Schultz (Binghamton, NY Chenango Valley), and Diallo Marshall (Saint George, Antigua & Barbuda/St. Anthony's) won gold. Next, in the 1000 free, the Hawks went 1-2 with Brady Haraden (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) placing first, followed by Nic Canney (Chandler, AZ/Corona Del Sol). The 200 freestyle was won by Dawson Tupponce (Phoenix, AZ/Desert Vista). Colin Leonard (Slingerlands, NY/Bethlehem) swept the 100 breaststroke. Schultz, Tupponce, and Canney went 1-2-3 in the 200 butterfly, and Marshall won the 50 freestyle. Gabe Castro (Orlando, FL/Cypress Creek) won both 3m and 1m diving.
Marshall took gold in the 100 freestyle as well, beginning the second half of the meet strong. Haraden won the 200 backstroke, Leonard placed first in the 200 breaststroke, and Canney took first in the 500. Schultz and Tupponce went 1-2 in the 100 fly, and Schultz took the 200 IM. Ending the meet off strong was a win in the 400 medley relay composed of Marshall, Reid Sinkinson (Telford, PA/Souderton Area), Tupponce, and Masongsong.
The Hawks are back at it next Saturday as they host Oneonta and New Paltz at 1 p.m.
