ONEONTA, NY – The Hartwick women's swimming and diving team fell to Empire 8 foe Nazareth this Saturday in Moyer Pool. The Hawks scored 87 to Nazareth's 207, bringing their record to 2-2. Nazareth improves their record to 2-2 as well.
The Hawks had a trio of first place finishes. Bree Dy (Matawan, NJ/Bishop George Ahr) won the 100 backstroke and 200 backstroke. Joelle Ocheltree (Libertyville, IL/Libertyville) claimed the 500 freestyle with Abby Miller (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) taking second place.
There were a few second place finishes as well. Ocheltree placed second in the 1000 freestyle. Miller came in second in the 200 freestyle followed closely by Ocheltree just minutes after her 1000 silver. Avyanna Chavez-Rodriguez (Rio Rancho, NM/Pecos Connections Academy) placed second in the 100 freestyle. Paige Eaton (East Rochester, NY/Our Lady of Mercy) placed second in the 200 breaststroke, followed by Jacqueline Drown (Columbia, MO/Rock Bridge). Chavez-Rodriguez also came in second in the 100 butterfly. Dy took silver in the 200 IM.
Placing third in the 200 medley relay was Dy, Drown, Chavez-Rodriguez, and Miller. Eaton took bronze in the 100 breaststroke. Chavez-Rodriguez came in third in the 50 freestyle. Miller snagged a third in the 200 IM, and the 400 medley relay composed of Eaton, Elizabeth Baird (Wilton, NY/Saratoga Springs), Ocheltree, and Meghan Gezcy (Queensbury, NY/Queensburg) finished off the meet with a third place.
The Hawks are back at it next Saturday as they host Oneonta and New Paltz at 1 p.m.
