SELINSGROVE, PA – The Hartwick men's soccer team could not follow up Wednesday's blowout season-opening win with a repeat performance, dropping a 2-0 decision to Suquehanna on the road on Saturday evening. The win bumps the host River Hawks' up to 1-1, while 'Wick's record falls to the same 1-1.
Neither team could find the back of the net in the first half, with seven Susquehanna and five Hartwick efforts failing to find nylon. The River Hawks' Joe Armstrong had the best individual showing of the first 45 minutes, shooting three times.
The eventual game-winner came in the 57th minute, off of a corner. Susquehanna's Walter Wyatt sent one into the box that Adrian Dilascio found and sent over the line. Max Paczewski provided some insurance in the 83rd minute with an unassisted tally. The Hawks had two more shots for the rest of the evening; the first, by Jose Moreno (San Luis Potosi, Mexico/Latinoamerican Institute) in the 87th, minute was blocked, while the second off the head of Tyler Muir (Poughquag, NY/Arlington) in the 89th sailed high.
Only two Hawks recorded more than one shot on the evening. Peter Crawford (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) put one of his two on target while Jake Zona (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) also had a pair of tries to score. Jodi Johnson (Seaford, DE/Sussex Technical) played all 90 minutes in net, making one save.
The River Hawks had a slight advantage in the team statistics, outshooting Hartwick 13-10 (3 to 1 on target) and earning six corner kicks to the Hawks' four.
'Wick plays next on their home Elmore grass, hosting Bard on Tuesday, September 7 at 6 p.m.
