Box Score ALFRED, NY – The Men's Basketball team took Alfred to overtime after overcoming a double-digit deficit in regulation. Despite the extra 5 minutes, Hartwick fell just short of their goal, falling 74-81 to the hosts. Hartwick stands at 0-13 (0-5) while Alfred moves up to 9-4 (2-2).
Nick Eiler had a career high 23 points on 9-16 shooting.
Kevin Felasco dropped a season high 17 and
Anthony Girard followed with 15 of his own. Girard led the team with 8 rebounds and 4 steals.
Trevor Brink contributed 5 points and
Liam Drennan and Samuel Prosper chipped in with 4 apiece.
The Hawks had their second best shooting night of the season, connecting on 26-61 for a 43% clip. Impressively, Hartwick outscored their opponents in the paint 32-24 and in second chance points (11-6).
With less than 8 minutes to play in the second, Hartwick fell down by 8 points. A quick 3 from Brink and a layup by Felasco brought them within 3 with 5 to play. The teams traded a couple baskets until 3:21 when Alfred took a 6 point advantage. However, Hartwick's defense shut them down the rest of the half and Wick closed with a 6-0 run to force overtime. That run was capped by clutch free throws from Felasco, who was fouled while attempting a 3 with :29 on the clock. He calmly sunk 2-3 to tie the game and force OT.
The hosts began overtime with a 10-0 run to really put the game out of reach. Despite the quick deficit, Hartwick battled back to within 4 at the :43 second mark after an Eiler layup to cap a 5-0 run in just 20 seconds of play. Unfortunately, Alfred held off Hartwick the rest of the way to solidify the win.
Hartwick is back in action Friday in the first of a three game home stretch. Friday's game against Elmira will begin at 7:30PM.
