ONEONTA, NY - The Hartwick Women's swimming and diving team was narrowly defeated by Stevens Institute of Technology by a score of 134-145 in their final meet of the regular season. This was the first blemish for the men, who fell to 8-1, whilst Stevens rose to 5-2.
The Hawks started off the meet strong with a second place finish in the 200 medley relay consisting of
Michael Schultz (Binghamton, NY Chenango Valley),
Colin Leonard (Slingerlands, NY/Bethlehem),
Dawson Tupponce (Phoenix, AZ/Desert Vista), and
Diallo Marshall (Saint George, Antigua & Barbuda/St. Anthony's).
Brady Haraden (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) came in second in the 1000 freestyle, followed by
Nic Canney (Chandler, AZ/Corona Del Sol). Tupponce won the 200 freestyle, with
Reid Sinkinson (Telford, PA/Souderton Area) coming in third.
Devin Masongsong (Pleasant Hill, CA College Park) came in third in the 100 backstroke. Leonard won the 100 breaststroke. Schultz and Tupponce went 1-2 in the 200 butterfly. Marshall came in second in the 50 freestyle, followed by Sinkinson.
In the second half of the meet, the Hawks kept the meet close as Marshall won the 100 freestyle, with Sinkinson in third. Masongsong came in third in the 200 backstroke. Leonard swept the 200 breaststroke. Haraden came a close second in the 500 freestyle. Schultz came in second in the 100 butterfly and won the 200 IM. The 400 freestyle relay finished second with a team consisting of Tupponce, Sinkinson,
Evan Nezat (Jacksonville, NC/Jacksonville), and Marshall.
Two seniors were recognized prior to the start of the afternoon;
Diallo Marshall and
Colin Leonard. Marshall is graduating after just three years with a degree in Biology. Leonard spent 4 years at Hartwick and will leave with a degree in Nursing. Both have been important pieces to the success the team has seen during their time, and they will certainly be missed.
Hartwick will compete next at the Allegheny Empire Championship February 16-19 at the Webster Aquatic Center in Webster, NY.
