ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Hawks needed to win their final regular season Empire 8 contest in order to make post season play and they did just that, defeating the Elmira College Soaring Eagles on the road 3-2.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- Hartwick set the tone early, scoring twice in the opening half.
- Nik Heasley (Hudson Falls, N.Y.) found the back of the net in the 16th minute with a header to the far corner.
- Elmira committed a foul in their own box during the 23rd minute of play setting up a Hartwick penalty kick. Jake Zona (Liverpool, N.Y.) did not miss, scoring his sixth goal of the season to give the Hawks the 2-0 lead.
- The Hawks took the 2-0 lead into the second half, but Hartwick committed their own foul in their box giving Elmira a penalty kick opportunity.
- The Soaring Eagles converted the PK to cut the Hartwick lead in half in the 57th minute.
- However, the Hawks fought back as Brady Cummings (Shoreham, N.Y.) scored in the 64th minute to give the Hawks a two-goal lead once again.
- The goal proved to be even more crucial as the final minutes approached.
- Elmira once again drew a PK in the 83rd minute and capitalized on the opportunity, bringing the score to 3-2.
- The Hawks held on for the last seven minutes to secure the win and a spot in the Empire 8 playoffs as the #6 seed.
UP NEXT FOR THE HAWKS
The Hawks will get to focus on post season play for the first time since transitioning from Division I to Division III in 2018. As the #6 seed in the tournament, Hartwick will travel to Russell Sage on Tuesday, November 1 for the first round. The winner will advance to face off with Medaille in the semifinal on Thursday in Buffalo.
