UTICA, N.Y. – The Hartwick Hawks Women's Soccer team saw their 2022 campaign come to a close on Tuesday afternoon, falling on the road at Utica 2-1 in the Empire 8 first round.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- The Hawks and Pioneers matched up for the second time in four days after wrapping up the regular season against each other on Saturday.
- Utica started strong, getting off 16 shots in the first half, putting seven of them on goal.
- The host Pioneers struck first with a goal in the 28th minute of play.
- Despite the shot disparity, Hartwick made the most of their third shot on goal in the half as Nicole Casab (Utica, N.Y.) found the back of the net in the 45th minute to knot the score at 1-1.
- Unfortunately for the Hawks, Utica came right out of the gate in the second half, converting on a corner kick opportunity in the 48th minute of play.
- Hartwick continued to battle, outshooting Utica 11-6 in the second half.
- However, the Pioneer's keeper was able to deny all five shots that the Hawks put on goal.
- Madi McGuire (Goshen, N.Y.) led the way, getting off four shots while putting one on goal. Jenna Mierek (Prospect, Conn.) and Myah Johnston (Roxbury, N.Y.) put each of their three shots on goal.
- Sara Staup (Woodinville, Wash.) completed the game with seven saves across 90 minutes of work.
- The Hawks ended their season with their sixth straight Empire 8 tournament appearance.
