BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Hawks saw their 2022 season come to a close in the Empire 8 Semifinal game at Medaille on Thursday night with a 3-1 loss.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- The host Mavericks scored first in the 13th minute to take the early 1-0 lead in the Empire 8 Semifinal match.
- The Hawks were able to respond in the 27th minute after Medaille committed a foul in the box earning Hartwick a penalty kick opportunity.
- Jake Zona (Liverpool, N.Y.) converted on the PK for his 8th goal of the season to knot the score up 1-1.
- The Mavericks ended up being granted a penalty kick opportunity of their own after a Hartwick foul in the box.
- Ander Castillo took the kick for Medaille and converted his chance to give the Mavericks the 2-1 lead in the 44th minute of play.
- Coming out of halftime, Medaille turned up their offense, getting off 11 shots to just five for the Hawks.
- Hartwick had an opportunity to even the score in the 51st minute with a shot from Jose Moreno (San Luis Potosi, Mexico) and again in the 79th minute with a shot from Ethan Kaiser (Red Hook, N.Y.).
- However, the Maverick's goalie denied both attempts by the Hawks.
- Medaille ended up putting the contest out of reach with a goal in the 86th minute to secure the win and advance to the Empire 8 Championship.
- Hartwick concludes their season with a 6-9-3 mark overall and a 3-4-2 record in conference play.
- The Hawks also made history this season as the first team to qualify for post season play in the program's NCAA Division III era.
