Field Hockey Ends Season in NCAA First Round

Box Score ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Hawks saw their season come to a close in the NCAA First Round with a 4-0 loss at William Smith.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
 
  • The Hawks held the lead in corners over the first 30 minutes, but it was the Herons who were able to convert one of their seven shots into a goal.
  • Sophia Pattillo found the inside left corner just past the extended leg of Madison Maddocks (Garrison, N.Y.) in the early portion of the 17th minute of play.
  • Hartwick made a push mid-way through the 2nd quarter with back-to-back corner opportunities, but were unable to find the equalizer.
  • The Herons took a 2-0 lead one minute and thirty-one seconds into the 3rd quarter on a corner opportunity.
  • The Hawks put a handful of runs together after the host squad's goal, led by midfielders, Julie Ruzzi (High Falls, N.Y.) and Leah Tolley (Pittsford, N.Y.), as well as forward, Sydney Gagnon (Chestertown, N.Y.).
  • William Smith ended up ending the 3rd like they started, putting a third goal away in the 43rd minute.
  • The Herons turned up the pressure on the Hawks in the 4th, putting four shots before they found their fourth goal off of a scramble in front of the cage.
  • Hartwick made one final push to get on the board in the last minute on a corner.  Lex Matarazzo (Commack, N.Y.) inserted the ball, but Gagnon's shot went wide.
  • Maddocks took the hard luck loss, saving 9 across the 60 minutes.
