Women Cruise to Victory Over Visiting Alfred 77-49

ONEONTA, NY – The Women's Basketball team took care of business at home, with a 77-49 win over the visiting Alfred Saxons. The win is Hartwick's third in a row and puts them solely into 2nd place in the conference standings at 10-3 (15-6 overall).  Alfred falls to 11-11 (6-7) as they battle for the 5th and final spot in the postseason.
 
Hartwick allowed just 8 points in the opening quarter, limiting the visitors to 4-17 shooting.  Alfred's only lead of the game came at the 6:29 mark when they went up 1, but Hartwick outscored the Saxons 17-3 the rest of the way to take a commanding lead, 22-8, into the second.
 
Hartwick's defense was just as strong in the second, allowing just 9 points on 2-14 shooting.  After each team scored 7 to open the quarter, the Hawks held Alfred scoreless for 4 minutes while they went on a 12-0 run to really open the game at 39-15 with 3 minutes to play.  Just two free-throws were allowed the rest of the way, as Hartwick built an insurmountable 41-17 lead at the half.
 
The Hawks opened up their largest lead of the night at 36 midway through the 3rd and were able to control the game the rest of the way.  Although cold from behind the arc (just 1-10 in the half), Hartwick connected on 13 of their 29 other shots en-route to easily taking the game.  Hartwick led the game in points off turnovers (15-8), 2nd chance points (24-12), bench points (37-25), points in the paint (48-16) and fast break points (12-6).  The Hawks led in rebounds 57-40.
 
Mikyla Mitchell came off the bench to lead all scorers with 18 points on 7-11 shooting.  She also pulled down 5 rebounds and dished out 3 assists.  Giuliana Pritchard followed with 17 points and 6 boards while Maggie Kirby and Molly Kirby pitched in with 10 each.  Bree Fargnoli and Maggie Kirby led the team with 8 rebounds each.
 
The Hawks close out their home regular season with a game against Houghton tomorrow at 2pm.
