Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Sage Pulls Away From Hartwick in Second Half

ONEONTA, NY – The Hartwick Men's Basketball team suffered a loss to Sage College Tuesday night, 64-74.  Down just 1 at the half, Hartwick was unable to overcome a strong shooting second half by the visitors despite holding a lead in the second half and keeping the game within reach most of the way.  Hartwick fell to 1-20 (1-12) while Sage improved to 12-11 (6-8).

Down 10 early in the game, Hartwick battled back from the 12-2 deficit to tie the game at 14 with 10:26 to play after scoring 9 straight points.  Anthony Girard jumpstarted the run with a triple, Cooper Francis connected on another long range shot, and Sammuel Prosper hit 3 free throws during the stretch.  Although Sage was able to build their lead back up to 6 on a couple occasions, Hartwick never went away, scoring the half's final 4 points to head to the locker room down 26-27.

Nick Eiler got things started for Wick in the second half, hitting from long range to give Hartwick the 2 point edge.  The teams traded the next four baskets with Hartwick up 33-31 at the 16:16 mark after a Liam Drennan layup.  Drennan's layup 2 minutes later kept the Hawks ahead until Sage rattled off the next 6 to regain a four point edge.  Trevor Brink connected on a three pointer to pull within 1 at the 12:28 mark, but that would prove the closest Hartwick would get to regaining the lead on the night.  Sage pulled away, building their lead to as much as 15, before finishing with the 10 point win.

Four Hartwick players scored in double figures tonight, led by Cooper Francis off the bench and Liam Drennan who each scored 13.  Anthony Girard followed with 11 and Trevor Brink added 10.  Drennan led the Hawks with 8 rebounds and 2 blocked shots.  Girard, Brink and Francis each had a team high 3 assists on the night.

The Hawks will head to Keuka on Friday evening at 7:30 before taking on Elmira the next day at 2PM.
