ELMIRA, NY – The Hartwick Women's Basketball team closed out their regular season with a win over Elmira College 71-46. The 6
th consecutive victory for Hartwick is their longest of the season. The win brings Hartwick's regular season record to 18-6 (13-3).
Maggie Kirby led all scorers with 17 points, as she makes her push towards 1,000 career points in her final season with the Hawks. With her 17 tonight, she is currently just 22 points shy of hitting the milestone.
Bree Fargnoli added 10 points as the only other double-digit scorer. The well-balanced offensive attack of Hartwick saw nine players score in the game.
Kayley Ericson led the team with 8 rebounds and
Molly Kirby paced the Hawks with 5 steals.
Hartwick won each of the four quarters in the game, building a 12 point halftime lead and limiting the hosts to less than 10 points in the 2
nd and 4
th quarters of the game. Hartwick forced 33 turnovers and converted them into 26 points which made much of the difference in the game.
By virtue of securing the 2
nd seed in the upcoming Empire 8 Conference Tournament, the Hawks have the week to prepare for their game on Friday against the 3
rd seeded Nazareth College. Both semifinals and the finals game will be played at the top seeded St. John Fisher College, with Hartwick's contest tipping off at 7:30pm in Rochester. Hartwick defeated Nazareth twice during the regular season; first at home 66-62 then on the road 86-72. The top seeded Cardinals will play the winner of #4Utica vs. #5Russel Sage College that is being played on Tuesday in Utica.
