Clinton, NY — The Hawks headed North this afternoon for their third game of the 2022 season, taking on the Continentals of Hamilton College. A 12-3 victory for the hosts dropped the Hawks to 2-2 on the year, as Hamilton also found their second win of the year and sit at 2-2.
After a quick faceoff win from Hamilton which seemed to possibly give them the first score of the day, it was
Kyle McKee (Wantagh, NY/General Douglas MacArthur) with back-to-back saves to halt the initial push. A failed clear attempt led to Hamilton's first goal from Britt Defeo assisted by Tim Murray. Hamilton scored twice more on failed Hartwick clears, leading to a quick 3-0 advantage for the Continentals. The end of the first quarter came with the score 5-0 in favor of the hosts, after a man-up goal and a rebounded shot that found the back of the net.
With 2 Hawks in the penalty box was able to convert to make the score 6-0 before scoring yet another to take a commanding 7-0 lead with 6:50 remaining in the first half. The Hawks finally found the netting when
Seth Bello (Holliston, MA/Holliston) caught a pass from
Dylan Ferguson (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin) at 3:55. The half ended at that same 7-1 score.
The second half stayed in favor of Hamilton with goals from Will Heher, and Justin Pearl who got his second of the day with 10:31 left in the third. The Hawks dynamic duo of Ferguson and
Kainen Francis-Thompson (Hogansburg, NY/Massena) once again connected this year for a Ferguson goal making the game 9-2 with 7:00 in the third. Hamilton followed up Fergusons goal with three of their own from Charlie Ratner, Perotto, and Nathaniel Field. But once again it was the Hawks dynamic duo who found the back of the net, this time it was Francis-Thompson from Ferguson on a man-up opportunity. Unfortunately, there was no come from behind win in the making this afternoon, as Hamilton took the game 12-3.
Kyle McKee led the way for the Hawk's defense with 20 saves, playing all 60 minutes in goal. Hartwick only converted 4 face-off wins but caused 22 Hamilton turnovers in the match.
The Hawks play next on Saturday, March 19th at 3 pm against Plattsburgh State in Wright Stadium.
