ONEONTA, NY – The Men's Lacrosse team suffered a tough loss to the country's 5
th ranked St. John Fisher Cardinals by a final score of 22-6. The Cardinals improved to 12-2 (5-0) and clinched the E8 regular season title. Hartwick's record moves to 5-5 (2-3) with one game remaining in the regular season.
St. John Fisher dominated the game early, scoring just 30 seconds into the game before scoring the games first 14 over the entirety of the 1
st quarter and beginning of the 2
nd.
Kainen Francis-Thompson got the Hawks on the board with a goal at the 10:14 mark of the 2

Shayne Kerrigan closed the half out with a goal from an
Aidan Clark pass to bring the score to an insurmountable 16-2 Cardinal lead at the half.
Hartwick scored three goals in the 3

Jared Tiong-Smith was in goal, making 22 saves in the loss.
Hartwick's remaining regular season game will be played on Tuesday against Utica University at home, beginning at 4PM. The game is a must-win for the Hawks, who could get back into the conference tournament with the victory. There are 5 teams eligible for the tournament's 4 spots, with St, John Fisher having already locked up the top seed. Nazareth (3-1), Alfred (3-2), Utica (2-2), and Hartwick (2-3) are each vying for the remaining 3 spots. A Hartwick loss would eliminate the Hawks. A win has the potential to setup a 3-way tiebreaker scenario between Hartwick, Utica, and Nazareth. A Hartwick win and a Utica loss to Nazareth will not need tiebreakers to give Hartwick the 4
th seed.
Prior to the game, Hartwick recognized a group of nine seniors who will be graduating in a few short weeks. These nine have had a rather unusual career, having not competed in a full season since 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic preventing play the previous two seasons. The Athletic Department, and Hartwick College, extend congratulations and best wishes on the next chapter for these nine excellent student-athletes.
