Utica Pulls Away from Hartwick in Second Half; Hawks Fall 85-70

Box Score UTICA, N.Y. – The Hawks stayed within striking distance for thirty minutes of play, but the Utica University Pioneers would eventually pull away to claim the 85-70 win.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
 
  • The Pioneers jumped out to a 15-point lead mid-way through the first half.
  • The Hawks battled back, slowly chipping away at the Utica lead.
  • Jaden Carter (Lutz, Fla.) was the hot hand off the bench for Hartwick, dropping 12, including a big corner three late in the first half to temporarily get the Hawks within five.
  • Utica would score the final basket of the half to take the 42-35 lead into halftime.
  • The Hawks stayed within striking distance of Utica through the first seven minutes of the second half, not allowing their lead to expand by more than 10 points.
  • Unfortunately, Utica gradually began to pull away from Hartwick as the half progressed, finishing the contest with the 85-70.
  • Carter would lead all Hartwick scorers with 14 points.  Cooper Francis (Lynbrook, N.Y.) followed close behind with 13.
  • Bobby Connors (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) and Jeremiah Boateng (Springfield, Va.) finished with 11 and 10 respectively.
