Hawks Drop Tight Match To Elmira At Home

Oneonta, N.Y. – The Hartwick Men's Soccer team hosted Elmira for an Empire 8 conference clash under the lights at Elmore.

THE BASICS

  • Final Score: Elmira 1 Hartwick 0

  • Location: Oneonta, N.Y.

  • Records: Elmira (5-5-3,4-0-2 Empire 8), Hartwick (5-4-2, 2-1-1 Empire 8)

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • The Hawks started the game off on the right foot, pushing the ball up field and generating an early shot that was just wide off a corner into the box.

  • Keeping up the tempo, Hartwick began to move forward with purpose, posting several close shots before Elmira was able to respond.

  • The opposition began to show resistance but were quickly contested by the Hawk defense who controlled the middle of the field for most of the first half. The Soaring Eagles had a dangerous chance but a sliding Ramon Irizarry (Greenwood Lake, N.Y.) was able to knock the ball away.

  • Hartwick posted six shots opposed to Elmira's two as they looked to capitalize in the second half.

  • Elmira was able to score the first goal of the game in the 59th minute.

  • Hartwick posted three more shots as they fought hard to get a goal back, including a chance in the closing seconds but unfortunately was saved.
