Hawks Fall to Maritime in Sig Makofski Invitational Opener

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Hawks traveled to Union College on Saturday afternoon to play in the first game of the Sig Makofski Invitational against the SUNY Maritime Privateers.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
 
  • Maritime opened the game with an 11-point run across the first five minutes of play.
  • Cooper Francis (Lynbrook, N.Y.) finally got the Hawks on the board, sinking a pair of free-throws with 14:57 remaining.
  • However, the Privateers went on another 10-point run shortly thereafter to keep the Hawks at bay.
  • SUNY Maritime continued to put distance between themselves and Hartwick, getting hot from all over the floor, shooting 52% from the field, including a 6-13 performance beyond the arc.
  • The Hawks eventually found themselves down by 18 headed into halftime.
  • After shooting only 35% from the field in the first half, the Hawks turned things around in the second, shooting 52% from the floor.
  • Unfortunately, the Privateers continued to hold a significant lead over the Hawks as they continued to shoot well from range, hitting 7 of 17 three-point shots to take the 74-61 win.
  • Shea Barber (Wells Bridge, N.Y.) led Hartwick offensively with 13 points, while Francis tacked on 11.
 
UP NEXT FOR THE HAWKS
 
The Hawks will look to bounce back in the consolation game of the tournament at 2 PM on Sunday against the loser of today's 4 PM contest of Elms vs Union.
