Hartwick Ties In Final Non-Conference Match at Wilkes

Oneonta, N.Y. – The Hartwick Men's Soccer team hit the road to face off against non-conference opponent Wilkes.

 

THE BASICS

  • Final Score: Hartwick 2 Wilkes 2

  • Location: Wilkes-Barre, Pa.

  • Records:  Hartwick (4-3-2, 1-1 Empire 8) Wilkes (3-2-3, 1-0 Landmark)

 

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Hartwick controlled the pace of the game from the starting whistle, getting a shot on goal within the first four minutes of the game.

  • The squad posted several more shots before Wilkes struck first with a penalty goal in the 17th minute.They outshot their opponents 8-7 in the first half as they looked to bounce back for a stronger second half.

  • The Hawks flew out the gates with purpose to start the second half, pushing the ball down the field and generating a shot on goal two minutes in. Three more shots would follow shortly after as they started to figure out the Wilkes defense and looked to equalize the game.

  • Building off the momentum of getting several shots on goal, Hartwick pushed down the field once more firing off two consecutive shots before Andres Ordonez Acosta (Estado de Mexico, Mexico) found the back of the net off a Timmy McQueeney (Wading River, N.Y.) shot to tie the game in the 64th minute.

  • The opposition would strike again for a second goal but immense pressure from the Hawks just five minutes later caused an own goal for Wilkes as the game was tied again in the 74th minute.

  • Hartwick posted eighteen shots on their way to the tie against their final non-conference opponent this season.

 

UP NEXT FOR THE HAWKS

The Hawks will travel to Auburn, N.Y to face off against Cayuga Community College for an exhibition match on September 29th at 7PM.
